North Creek — Trains will once again roll along a 30-mile stretch of unused tracks in the Adirondacks.

The federal Surface Transportation Board has approved plans by Saratoga and North Creek Railway operator Iowa Pacific to provide freight service between North Creek and Newcomb, site of a former mine at Tahawus.

New York State has also approved the plan.  Environmental groups have opposed re-opening the train tracks.
